1. Casablanca:
Casablanca is the largest city in Morocco with 3,359,000 inhabitants.Area of Casablanca: 786 km² – area with agglomeration: 1 615 km². 5. Marrakech:
There are 928,850 inhabitants in Marrakech, one of the largest cities in Morocco. But Marrakech is above all a seaside town located on the Atlantic coast in the North-West of the Country. The city of Marrakech was founded in 1071. The name of the city comes from “Mour” word which means country and Akouch which means God. Marrakech literally means “the land of God”.
5. Sale:
It is 850,403 inhabitants who live in Salé. With the agglomeration, it is almost 1.8 million inhabitants who live in Sale and the surroundings. The surface area of the town of Sale is 87 m². This gives a density of 10 235 inhabitants per km². The city was founded in the 9th century by the Ifrenides.
6. Meknes:
632,000 inhabitants live in the big city of Meknes. The area is 370 km². That is a density of 1,708 inhabitants per km². The city is located north of the country inland, at 552 meters above sea level. Meknes was the capital of the Kingdom from 1672 to 1727. Places of interest in the town of Meknes are El-Hedim Square, the archaeological site of Volubilis. The city of Meknes comes from the name of the Berber tribe the Meknassa which founds the city. Meknes comes from the common Berber name “amends” which means combatant.
7. Rabat:
577 000 inhabitants were registered in Rabat in 2014. Rabat is the capital of Morocco. Located on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean, it is located at the mouth of Bouregreg. The area of the city of Rabat is 118.5 km². The density of the city is 4 876 inhabitants per km².
8. Temera:
The city of Téméra has 574,543 inhabitants. Téméra thus occupies the 8 the place of the ranking of the biggest cities in Morocco.
9. Agadir:
This coastal city has about 570,000 inhabitants. It is the largest seaside resort in Morocco. The city enjoys a mild climate throughout the year. Agadir comes from the word “gdr” which means literally talus which means steep terrain.
10. Oujda:
There are 549,280 inhabitants in Oujda. The area of the city is 600 km². This gives an altitude of 824 inhabitants per km². Oujda is a thousand-year-old city full of history.
